A Cure for Fungal Nails

The forefoot is generally an area of the foot that stays warm and damp, unfortunately making it a prime location for fungus to grow and thrive. If left untreated, seemingly harmless fungal infections can spread, which is why it’s so important to get professional help early on and learn about your treatment options.

Fungal nail disease medically referred to as onychomycosis, affects 2% to 14% of the adult population. Fungi that feed on keratin, a structural protein within your nails, frequently cause the condition. Fungal colonies proliferate in moist environments and invade the nail bed by penetrating the margins of the nail. Fungal nail Disease may result in pain, impair the ability to walk and can contribute to negative self esteem.

Some prescription medications have side effects and therefore are not always the best treatment option. Another option is surgery to remove the nail; this is not popular either. Laser foot therapy to treat the disease is gaining popularity as a means to achieve a quick increase in clear nails.

Treatments for thick nails, corns, callouses. Ingrown toenails, foot pain treatments, and warts.

*Note – Procedure is generally not covered by insurance*

Is The Procedure Painful?

During the fungal laser therapy treatment, a laser beam will be slowly directed across the nail bed. The laser beam will generate heat beneath the nail and within the underlying fungal colony. You will feel warm during the procedure which lasts 1 to 2 minutes per toenail. There might be a slight heat increase as a result of the heating effect of the laser beam.

How Soon Will I Have Clean Nails?

You will not see a result immediately, but rather over a period of months as the nail resumes healthy. Nails grow slowly, so you may not see a significant improvement for several months, but you should see gradual re-growth of clear nail.

Will I Need More Than One Treatment?

Yes. A total of 4 treatments or more may be recommended depending on the severity of the fungal condition. Our foot specialist will talk with you about the possibility of having additional treatments and will also advise you on the proper care of your nails to minimize the risk of recurrence.
