This program includes Both Advanced and Diabetic Nursing foot care including Advanced Practical skills for today’s Podortho Nurse™.
Module 1 (Theory – 2 Days)
Power Point Lessons, Written Exam
Module 2 (Independent Study)
Chapter Assignments (submitted by student to instructor)
Module 3 (Clinical Practice with Mentor)
One on one with instructor (3 days) first day shadow day, second and third day hands on patient care.
Multiple case studies with many different elements requiring advanced care.
Student will perform Podortho Nurse assessments, patient care, evaluation, patient health teaching and documentation observed by instructor.
Module 4 (OPNA – Provincial Podortho Nursing Exam )
This is typically booked on the last clinical day however can be booked with facilitator to write when ready to do so.
It is recommended exam be written after modules 1 to 3 have been completed.
Awarded Certificate in Podortho Nursing and the use of the Title Podortho Nurse™
Course Guidelines & Expectations
This course is designed to guide you to become a Nurse who is specialized in Podortho Nursing Foot and Lower Limb Care. You will be expected to conduct your own research and possess the competency to know when and how to assess related information which will continue throughout your Podortho Nursing Career. You will be asked to complete the required reading and assignments exams and practical case studies. Your exam will be based on what you learn in class. You will be provided with a text / work book. You will also be given the opportunities to practice what you have learned in a practical application through observation, demonstration and practice.
Your attendance is 100% mandatory for in class learning. Exceptions can be made for students who are travelling from long distances in terms of clinical days. These clinical days will be booked in advance.
